Samana is a privileged peninsula with reefs, capes,
coves, natural ports and impressive beaches.
It has more than 60 km2 of mangroves, bays as San Lorenzo
and Rincon, headlands as El Ermitaņo, Los Corozos and
Punta Balandra, and capes as Cayo Jackson and renowned
Cayo Levantado. Because of this, Samana has been proposed
by the UNESCO to become a World Biosphere Reservation.
Samana has 2 domestic airports: Arroyo Barril and El
Portillo, and by September '06 the new International
Airport El Catey will be operating. Together with this,
a new motorway will approach Samana to Santo Domingo
in a 2-hour drive ride.
